Group Presentations This project will be delivered by the entire team, Wednesday, December 15th, at 11 a.m. in the MSC Lab, 3rd Floor of the NET Building. The presentations will be 12 - 15 minutes long and will include a Powerpoint show. These topics should be robust in their information, displaying views from all sides, pro vs. con, positive vs. negative, effects across cultures, effects on the personal view, as well as, on the 'other person.' You are encouraged to printout a 'Form' <see link to the left > that pertains to your speech style; Informational or Persuasive, and use the form as a construction guide.

The Communication Lab provides a place where student workers can provide consultation for students from Speech 1113, or any speech class, and help with the writing and oral presentation of their speeches. The lab is open for people who have anxiety about speeches. Additionally, the lab is available for speech-related workshops to be held.
At your earliest convenience, please inform your students that the Communication Lab is open and available for their use during the lab's scheduled hours. We encourage all professors to contact the Communication Lab with any/all suggestions and/or materials which can help us assist your students.

An introductory
course designed to prepare students to handle the major types of communication
situations that they will encounter in life, including interpersonal communication,
group communication, and public speaking.

enable you to learn the role communication will play in your life; employ
critical thinking skills to evaluate speeches and to practice the art of
public speaking.

Performance Activities (Attendance)
You will be asked
to participate in some way nearly every day. Therefore, your attendance
will be important to the success of the course and your grade will be based
in part on your performance in that area. NOTE: If
you miss more than three (3) class periods during the semester you will
be required to present an additional speech!
Those with perfect attendance will receive a three percent bonus on their
final percentage for the course. Perfect attendance is achieved only by
meeting two conditions:
1. You must attend for the full class session each time the course meets.
You can not be late and you can not leave early. For the purpose of this
policy there are no excused absences.
2. Each assignment (quizzes, speeches, practice speeches) is completed when
assigned and due.

Course Requirements

• This course is not an “automatic A.” If you earn an
“A” you will receive it; if not, then you will receive the grade
you earn.
• All assignments turned in late or performed late are penalized by
one grade level per class session overdue (unexcused only).
• Make a copy of all work you turn in. Keep all graded work returned
to you till the end of the semester. This policy protects you from my mistakes
(and is a good idea for all of your classes).
• Plagiarism is the act of taking another person's words and/or ideas
and presenting them as your own. The following are examples of plagiarism.
1. Presenting a speech, or portion of a speech, from any source without
giving credit to the source.
2. Presenting ideas in your assignment that are not common information without
giving credit to the source of the ideas.
3. Presenting text transcribed from a book, magazine, encyclopedia, brochure,
website, etc.

Weather Policy
• Class will be held if at all possible.
• It is the student’s responsibility to receive the information
when weather is questionable.
• Neither students nor faculty are expected to risk life or limb.
• Faculty members are obligated to hold classes if the University
is not closed, unless the faculty member is unable to get to campus.
During times of inclement weather, decisions concerning day classes will
be made by 6:00 a.m. in order for the media to be notified and for students
to receive the announcement before they leave home. Decisions concerning
night classes will be made by 3:00 p.m.
